Lisbon, Portugal – 4/5th October, 2024
At the 2nd International Conference of the Portuguese Association for Cellular Agriculture, held in Lisbon on the 4th and 5th of October 2024, the IST-ID partner presented a scientific poster highlighting their innovative research conducted within the framework of the SURFs UP project.
The poster, titled “Classification and Forecasting of Mannosylerythritol Lipids (MELs) Production Using Artificial Intelligence Methods”, explored the application of advanced AI techniques, including machine learning algorithms, for predicting and classifying MELs production outcomes based on fermentation data and process parameters.
This data-driven methodology enables more accurate forecasting of biosurfactant yields and supports the optimisation of biotechnological processes.
The work aligns with the SURFs UP project’s overarching goal to valorise lignin and other underutilised biomass residues for the sustainable production of bio-based surfactants. By integrating AI into bioprocess development, IST-ID aims to increase the economic viability, scalability, and environmental sustainability of microbial biosurfactant production, contributing to the advancement of circular bioeconomy practices in Europe.
