SURFs UP launches a new Prototypes section

Discover the products made with our biosurfactants!
The SURFs UP website now features a new dedicated Prototypes section, showcasing the first consumer products formulated with biosurfactants developed and tested within the project.

The new section offers a closer look at how SURFs UP research is moving from the laboratory towards real-life applications, demonstrating the potential of bio-based surfactants in products for everyday use. Developing an effective biosurfactant is only one part of the journey towards market uptake. To be successfully incorporated into a final product, biosurfactants need to perform within complex formulations containing ingredients such as fragrances, active compounds and preservatives, while meeting key requirements related to cleaning performance, foaming, viscosity, colour, odour and shelf stability.

To address this challenge, project partner AMPHISTAR has developed six prototype formulations using SURFs UP biosurfactants, covering two main application areas:

• Personal Care: Smooth Operator (body lotion), Swipe Right (make-up remover) and Foam Sweet Foam (liquid hand soap).
• Home Care: Dishtroyer (dishwashing liquid), Shiny Star (acidic surface cleaning spray) and Grease Police (alkaline surface cleaning spray).

In the new Prototypes section, each product has its own dedicated page, including a description, product image and a downloadable fact sheet presenting its main characteristics.

The prototype’s section also highlights the events where the SURFs UP prototypes have already been presented to the public, including exhibitions organised together with CBE JU, as well as upcoming opportunities to see and experience the products first-hand. The list will be regularly updated with future events and AMPHISTAR participations, making it easier to find the next opportunity to discover the prototypes in person.
