Brief Description of the Project:
SurftoGreen develops novel platforms of high-performing, safe and sustainable, bio-based surfactants readily biodegradable, to provide sustainable alternatives to conventional petroleum-based products for key applications.

By using renewable biomass-derived building blocks sourced from EU agricultural and forest side streams, we are creating surfactants with over 95% bio-based content (covering nonionic, anionic, cationic and zwitterionic surfactant families), overcoming the current performance and production throughput constraints, while contributing to foster the market uptake of bio-based, circular solutions.

The project validates the effectiveness, sustainability and safety of its bio-based formulations in industrial demonstrators for home and personal care, textile enhancement, and agriculture.

SurfToGreen brings together 19 multidisciplinary actors from research and surfactant value chain. Thanks to the collaboration between major market players and small businesses, SurfToGreen aims to gain significant market share and compete against existing products, to ensure a paradigm shift towards more environmentally friendly practices.

Funded by the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking (CBE) >, the project spans 60 months (Oct. 2024 – Sep. 2029) with an allocation of about €9 million, and brings together 16 partners and 3 associated partners from 11 countries.

The project is supported by the Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking and its members under grant agreement No 101157586 and UKRI grant agreement No 10115826.
